Hey there guys, how you been? Good? Don't really care actually, this blog's about me. And yes, your visual cortex does not deceive you, I'm back to the old blogging grindstone! God knows my multitude of fans need something meaningful in their lives to stop them from eating their own weight in lard, or whatever it is that ordinary people do.
So since my last update, I've been studying furiously, or at least with a sense of minor annoyance. Managed to get myself on track for a 1st in my degree, so pretty damn happy about that (it would make me the first in my family to get a first, not that anyone's competing...). As I write these very words I should be writing my dissertation, which I am sure is one of the top five recurring sentances in blogs across the world (that and "sorry I've been away so long" which is why you'll never hear me say that... apart from just there). If anyone's interested, my dissertation is on the perennially popular subject of Kantian and Schopenhaurian interpretations of Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, in relation to metaphysics, language and logic. I know, you're fascinated already. My increasingly obscure philosophical interests aside, the work is going a little too slowly for my liking. "So get off blogger you lazy ass" you say? "How did you break out of the basement?" I respond.
In other news, I have been given a conditional offer by Napier University for their postgraduate MA in Journalism. I'm really looking forward to it, as it will give me a chance to learn some vaguely practical skills, a foothold in something resembling a career and gives me a good excuse to live in the magnificent Edinburgh again. You can't really appriciate Edinburgh properly when you're growing up in it. After living in Dundee for nearly 4 years, I have really gotten to realise how awesome a place Edinburgh really is (no offense meant Dundonians... actually, lots of offense meant, sort your city out). The course itself seems very modern and relevant, with lots of lovely news-making related toys to play with.
The course is conditional on my getting a 2:1. As I said, I am on course for a 1st, but I am very aware that I am still very capable of fucking it up utterly by not getting anything done on time this semester. One of my recurring problems throughout my academic career is getting a good hold on deadlines. My mind seems to recognise that I have to get something in by a certain date, but moving from that to working how how much time there is between the present and that date, and the workload therefore required seems to escape me. Oh the fun of dyspraxia - every day's an adventure.
On which note, I think I've warmed-up my writing muscles enough to get on with some work, so I shall bid you all a very good night, and will be back soon with something else, probably to do with music. Stay safe kids, unless you like that Rebecca Black song, in which case, run blindly into traffic.
Gabe.
